Lauren Brooks
Hi I’m Lauren. I grew up all over the United States, mainly in the south and the midwest. We didn’t live close to family, so the people we were in community with in whatever state we lived in became like our family. Because of this, I saw the importance of community and how I can be invested and contribute to people’s lives.
I attended college in Tennessee where I received my bachelor’s degree in public relations and a minor in Spanish (after studying abroad in Argentina for a year). I worked as an admissions counselor for 3 years at my alma mater, where I got to work with prospective high school students making their college decisions and getting to learn first-hand the power of story. After that, I moved to Ohio to another higher education institution where I worked as a communication specialist, fine tuning their communication strategies for prospective students, while also working and receiving my master’s degree in strategic communication. I was promoted to the director of public relations and marketing, the position which I currently hold.
I’ve been working and focusing on my mental health for about five years and in that time, I’ve seen how difficult access can be for those who need help. I’m passionate about creating safe spaces for people to just be and doing whatever I can in the communities I’m part of to create spaces that are full of love, acceptance and belonging.
In my free time, you can find me with my nose in a book, listening to vinyl records at home, attending concerts, or traveling to different states and countries.
